Fruit-inspired aesthetics have continued to grow in popularity stemming from the original Tomato-Girl vintage Italian look and Strawberry Girl's rosy hued cheeks with faux freckles to Cherry Girl reds, Lemon Girl's yellow palette of flowy fabrics, crotchet bags and soft lines to the peach fuzz aesthetic. The phrase Peachy-Keen made it to radio by a young Pasadena disc jockey Jim Hawthorne. From an excerpt in Time Magazine May 10, 1948 - "Jim Hawthorne, a young Pasadena disc jockey, used to be bored with his job ... one night, without notifying his bosses, Hawthorne suddenly turned his show into a carefree, wit-loose "Hellzapoppin" on the air. Next day, before the station had time to fire him, the place was snowed under with fan mail... His broadcast grew to Southern California stations and came to be known as "the net-to-net coast work of the Oh-So-Peachy-Keen Broadcasting Company". Both ABC and Mutual were jockeying for national network rights... Hawthorne and his peculiar banana-split lingo become all the rage of Southern California's younger set and the young folks overwork with Hawthorne's favorite adjectives: Keen, Peachy-Keen, and Oh-So-Peachy-Keen."

The Bellini cocktail was created by Giuseppe Cipriani in the early 1940s at the legendary Harry's Bar in Venice, Italy - a favorite hangout of expats including Ernest Hemingway, Orson Welles and Sinclair Lewis. The cocktail owes its name and color to Cipriani's fascination with Italian painter Giovanni Bellini, a 15th-century Venetian artist. From one of Giovanni Bellini's paintings, in which a toga worn by a Saint is the color of a unique shade of pink ... Giuseppe's son, Arrigo once stated: "I had no idea at the time that the pink glow my father had so admired in one of Bellini's paintings would become the inspiration for his famous cocktail." To make an authentic Bellini cocktail, choose an Italian sparkling wine, preferably Prosecco (spumante) add to taste & for pink glow, puree made of fresh white peaches.
