Within its walls, a rich tapestry of history evolved, from the arrest of the infamous spy Mata Hari in 1917 to its transformation into a bank in 1919. During World War II, the building fell under Nazi occupation before eventually becoming the headquarters of HSBC Bank. Today, its return to hospitality roots with Louis Vuitton is symbolic and marks a full circle setting the stage for the grand unveiling.

Her store at 12 rue de l’Odéon was a gathering place for great expat writers of the time: Joyce, Hemingway, Stein, Fitzgerald, Eliot, Pound - and fellow French writers too.

Musée Picasso

Hôtel Salé 5 rue de Thorigny, 75003 Paris

The hôtel Salé is probably, as Bruno Foucart wrote in 1985, “the grandest, most extraordinary, if not the most extravagant, of the grand Parisian houses of the 17th century”. Haven seen many occupants come and go over the centuries... before the place was entrusted to the museum. In 1974, one year following Picasso’s death, the decision to install the “dation Picasso” (works donated in lieu of estate taxes) in the Hôtel Salé was made very quickly and gave the State permission to acquire the bulk of Picasso’s works, enriched by donations and support from his heirs. The Hôtel Salé, a private mansion at 5 rue de Thorigny in Paris’ 3rd arrondissement was chosen to house Picasso’s collection. THE MUSÉE NATIONAL PICASSO-PARIS was inaugurated in October 1985. The collection comprises over 5,000 works and thousands of archived pieces. For its quality and scope as well as the range of art forms it encompasses - this collection is the only one in the world to present both Picasso’s complete painted, sculpted, engraved, illustrated œuvre and a precise record - through sketches, studies, drafts, notebooks, etchings in various stages, photographs, illustrated books, films and documents - of the artist's creative process."

Picasso 1904-1906

Rose Period

It was during this time that Picasso settled into the Bateau-Lavoir in Montmartre, where he met other artists and poets. Together they frequented the café Au lapin agile, the Médrano circus and the Parisian theater troupes full of entertainers and acrobats. Soon the figure of the actor in disguise and melancholic acrobat became very present in Picasso's renderings and colours gradually moved towards pink tones.

LES DEUX MAGOTS in Saint-Germain-des-Prés - the iconic cafe turns 140 years old and to celebrate their anniversary an exhibition "140 Years of Creative Minds" is on display at the cafe through September 22, 2024. A retrospective honoring the very soul of the literary café - the artists of all eras with freedom to express their fantasies, their madness, their thoughts within the walls of every form; writers, filmmakers, painters, musicians, thinkers, sculptors, architects, stylists and all those who embodied the life of artistic expression. The name is from 2 legendary statues (magots) that still stand in the middle of the café today.

Maxime Frédéric at LOUIS VUITTON Café opposite the Seine River and above LV DREAM exhibition. For the first time, the café unveils a new savory lunch menu that has been added to its selection of delicious chocolates and pastries - from ravioli adorned with the Monogram Flower to delicate tartlets that reveal the Maison’s Damier design. Maxime Frédéric was awarded Gault & Millau Guide's 2022 Pastry Chef of the Year following his arrival at Cheval Blanc Paris and has created a lunch menu that celebrates the Maison’s graphic motifs and pays homage to Louis Vuitton’s heritage with savoir-faire and innovation.

Le Café Alain Ducasse, MANUFACTURE à Paris located in the district of Bastille - a few steps away from the Manufacture de chocolat. This is a place where the coffee is traditionally handcrafted with extreme delicacy - according to Alain Ducasse and head roaster, Veda Viraswami. To experience taste through a new journey of different countries, different farms, different soils, and different communities.

LA MAISON ROSE Cafe in the Montmartre neighborhood - whose name means Pink House, is one of the cutest buildings in Paris with an inspired history. Ramon Pichot, a Catalan painter bought this little house in 1905 (he was friends with Dali and Picasso) who would visit him in this little house that was also his painting studio. Pichot married Germaine Gargallo in 1908, a figure of Montmartre and a model for painters. After a trip to Spain, Germaine decided to paint the outside walls in pink and opened "La Maison Rose" a restaurant to welcome all the residents of the Bateau Lavoir, and their artists friends. In 1948, Beatrice Miolano, of Italian origin, bought La Maison Rose and ran it with her son Jean Miolano. This iconic spot was frequented by artists and singers who performed in Pigalle and Montmartre cabarets and in the 60-70s by film artists and writers such as Albert Camus, Alain Delon and Dalida. Then in 2017, La Maison Rose re-opened with a new team led by the granddaughter of Beatrice offering a short menu based on fresh seasonal products inspired by French farm to table cuisine and Italian cucina povera.

Café de Flore corner of Boulevard Saint-Germain and Rue Saint-Benoît - one of the most iconic and historically significant cafés in Paris, celebrated for its famous clientele - many of the world’s renowned artists, writers, and intellectuals. Opened in 1885 during the Third Republic - its name said to have been inspired by a sculpture of the Roman goddess Flora, located on the opposite side of Saint-Germain. It quickly became a favourite haunt of the literary and intellectual élite from Ernest Hemingway and Jean-Paul Sartre to Albert Camus and Maurice Merleau-Ponty. The café is known for its annual literary prize, the Prix de Flore - awarded since 1994, given to promising new authors, a cash award which also includes a glass of Pouilly-Fumé each day for a year at the café. A delightful breakfast spot (easier to get terrace seating as these spots fill up quickly) to enjoy a fresh croissant and café au lait - and to people-watch.

LE BON GEORGES in the 9th arrondissement - a neighborhood favourite by locals and tourists alike, and a haven for wine lovers. The cozy French bistro champions classics with a menu that changes almost daily with freshly sourced ingredients from the best French producers. Owner Benoît Duval-Arnould has managed to reinvigorate the Parisian bistro, making it relevant to today. Benoît grew up on a farm and while he spent a few years working for an American-based food company, he left that world to go back to his roots and focus on the quality of farm-fresh ingredients, incorporating them into the bistro genre.
