Capri

“En el amor, como agua del mar te has desatado."

(In love, you have loosened yourself like seawater)

Pablo Neruda - The Captain's Verses

Capri

Poet Pablo Neruda finished writing The Captain’s Verses in 1952 while in exile on the island of Capri, second Roman emperor - Tiberius Caesar August fled Rome for Capri and in Homer’s Odyssey, its waters were inhabited by the Sirens who beckoned sailors to their deaths. Located off the Bay of Naples, Capri sits within the Tyrrhenian Sea suspended between an endless azure sky and a sparkling sea of cobalt. Blanketed with Bougainvillea, Mediterranean shrubbery, Broom flowers, and lemon trees of which have become a motif of the island from its limoncello digestivi to lemon-print designs. Capri is Slim Aarons' photographs of sunbathing beauties and Jackie Kennedy Onassis visits in capri pants. The island’s natural beauty and unpretentious dress code of white linen co-exists with mega yachts and days unrushed touring the island in open-air taxis with canvas canopies. Secluded yet public; understated and hedonistic; intimate but glamorous - Capri is a true definition of Mediterranean chic.
